The Dutch Reformed Church
The Dutch Reformed Church in Sutherland is a must-see historical building located on the main road. It was designed by architect Charles Freeman and was occupied by British soldiers during the Anglo Boer War before it could be consecrated. Graffiti scribbled on the walls and a door by British troops can still be seen in the church. As shown on the left, the church also houses a unique German organ that is worth seeing. A tour of the impressive church takes about forty minutes and is well worth taking the time for.

The NP Van Wyk Louw Museum
The NP Van Wyk Louw Museum is a literacy museum located in Sutherland, South Africa. The museum is situated in the house where two famous Afrikaans poets and writer brothers, N.P van Wyk Louw and W.E.G. Louw, were born. N.P. van Wyk Louw was an Afrikaans-language poet, playwright, and scholar[4]. The museum showcases the life and works of the Louw brothers. Visitors can view a collection of the correspondence between N.P. van Wyk and his brother W.E.G. Louw, published under the title "Briewe van W.E.G. en N.P. van Wyk Louw 1941-1970". The museum is a must-visit for those interested in Afrikaans literature and history.

The South African Large Telescope
The Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) is a must-visit destination for astronomy enthusiasts and anyone interested in scientific exploration. Located near Sutherland, SALT is the largest optical telescope in the Southern Hemisphere. Its mirror measures 11.1 by 9.8 meters, consisting of 91 identical hexagonal segments, making it an impressive scientific facility. SALT is designed primarily for spectroscopy and enables imaging, spectroscopic, and polarimetric analysis of radiation from astronomical objects that are not easily accessible to telescopes in the northern hemisphere. The telescope is situated at the South African Astronomical Observatory, the national optical observatory of South Africa, and is part of a network of research institutes and universities from around the world. The location of SALT in the Karoo provides excellent conditions for observing the night sky, making it a significant asset to the field of astronomy. Sutherland Cemetery
Sutherland Cemetery, also known as the Sutherland Anglo Boer War Cemetery, is a historic cemetery that serves as the final resting place for British soldiers who lost their lives during the Anglo Boer War. Situated in the Namakwa District Municipality, this cemetery holds significant historical value and offers visitors a glimpse into the town's past. Adjacent to the cemetery is the NG Church, a remarkable architectural gem designed by Charles Freeman. During the Anglo Boer War, the church was occupied by British soldiers before its consecration. Stargazing
"Sterland Stargazing Stargazing sessions are presented almost every night throughout the year. The stargazing session is one hour (max 1.5 hours) long where you will be able to watch through 1 of 6 telescopes. Remember to "dress up for the occasion". Evenings are cool so in order for you to enjoy the program more thoroughly, being warmly dressed is essential. Please always confirm the starting times when booking for Star Gazing and note the show is one and a half hours long. You as the stargazer are first treated with an indoor presentation on a three meter size screen with explanations of the constellations and size of the universe. A short DVD about Sutherland is also shown. Astronomy related posters and books including Wayne Mitchell's STAR GAZER'S DEEP SPACE ATLAS will be on display. Once you are outside, Jurg uses a very powerful laser to point out the stars and different constellations as well as to teach you hoe to find South with the aid of the Southern Cross and Magellan clouds before physically looking through one of the five telescopes." It is the latest and only privately owned planetarium in the area, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a powerful telescope and a high-resolution planetarium dome. Visitors can observe the night sky and learn about astronomy in a unique and immersive way. The planetarium is a must-visit destination for astronomy enthusiasts and anyone interested in exploring the wonders of the universe. Its convenient location in the center of Sutherland makes it easily accessible for visitors.
Horse Riding

Middelfontein is a privately owned farm 2km north of Sutherland. The farm offers trails of varying lengths, including 3km, 6km, and 12km, as well as mountain biking opportunities.

Rogge Cloof Reserve
Rogge Cloof Private Nature Reserve, located near Sutherland, is a registered Biosphere Reserve known for its free-roaming game and cheetahs.
